From our pilot
In Their Words
What It Is
The Girls’ Club is a safe, inclusive online space where girls can explore who they are, learn about their changing bodies and emotions, and build confidence. It covers the conversations many families find hard to start, and it bridges the gap between home, school and community. Sessions run weekly over Zoom for 90 minutes, with groups for ages 10 to 13 and 14 to 17.
“We are here to remind every girl that she is enough, just as she is: growing, learning, changing and belonging.”
What Each Week Covers
- Welcome and CommunicationBuilding trust, listening, and speaking up with confidence
- The Liar WithinSpotting the unkind, untrue things we tell ourselves and replacing them with kinder truths
- Emotional Regulation and Self-CareBreathing, movement and journaling strategies for calm and wellbeing
- Body Confidence and Period EducationAnatomy, body changes, myth-busting and self-acceptance, in a relaxed and positive setting
- Friendship and BoundariesHealthy communication, empathy, and knowing who to turn to for support
- Reflection and CelebrationA letter to their future self, a sharing circle and a closing celebration of how far they have come
How It Supports Teenage Girls
Adolescence brings changes in body, emotions, friendships and identity, often all at once. The Girls’ Club gives girls:
- Knowledge and language so that talking about their bodies feels normal rather than embarrassing
- Emotional skills to recognise what they feel, understand why, and respond calmly
- Connection with other girls going through the same changes, which builds belonging and reduces isolation
- A voice to ask questions, set boundaries and express themselves
- A foundation of self-respect, where understanding their bodies and emotions is a source of strength, not shame
What a Session Looks Like
Every session follows the same predictable shape, which helps girls feel settled: a welcome and emotional check-in, a guided discussion, creative and reflective activities, open question time, and closing journaling. Girls can take part by speaking, writing, drawing or using gestures, so every learning style and communication style is supported. Mothers and daughters also share activities such as creating a wellbeing toolkit and a closing reflection, “What We’ve Learned Together”.
Safe, Respectful and Inclusive
- Girls join from a private, safe space at home with a trusted adult nearby but not listening in
- All identities, backgrounds and family values are respected
- Sessions are adapted for neurodiverse learners and girls with additional emotional needs
- Confidentiality is honoured, with safeguarding always taking priority
- Sessions are recorded for safeguarding only and deleted six weeks after the program ends
- Julie Ann White is the designated Safeguarding Lead
